We are pleased to invite you to attend the 3-day Workshop about Animal Assisted Therapy, which will be held in Zagreb, Croatia, 24th to 26th November. The aim of this workshop is to educate professionals who are implementing or participating in the AAT activities (therapists - occupational, physical, speech and language, behavioral, social workers, psychologists and dog handlers) about the functional and measurable intervention activities that include dogs in a variety of settings and activities.
The three main topics to be covered by the workshop include:
- Use of Play and Animal Assisted Therapy Intervention
- Animal Assisted Intervention with Autism Spectrum Disorder clients
- Service Dogs and Interventions with persons with Mobility Challenges.
Melissa Winkle, OTR/L/FAOTA works with individuals of all ages and abilities in Albuquerque, NM. Her practice, Dogwood Therapy Services Inc., offers client centered occupational therapy in clinical, integrated community settings, and corrections facilities. She has special interests in animal assisted interventions, assistance dogs as assistive technology options, nature therapy, and program development. Melissa is president of the international organization Animal Assisted Intervention International, on a variety of task forces and working groups, and President Animal Humane New Mexico’s Warm Hearts Network. She is an instructor trainer and consultant with Assistance Dogs of the West, an accredited member of Assistance Dogs International, a trainer for Anicare (the link between domestic violence and animal abuse), and TAGTeach (Teaching with Acoustical Guidance). Melissa is committed to developing high standards of practice for professionals who use animal assisted interventions in regards to clients, the animals involved and facilitating professional development.
